For the academic year 2023-2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) will be awarding Italian Government Scholarships to foreign citizens who do not reside in Italy as well as Italian citizens who live abroad (IRE). The goals of these grants are to promote international cultural, scientific, and technological cooperation, to support Italy’s economic system in the world, and to promote Italian language and culture. These grants are awarded in accordance with Law 288/55 and its subsequent changes and additions.

Grants are available to pursue study, training, or research programs at Italian Higher Education Institutes that are either publicly recognized or have been granted legal recognition.

Level and Fields of Study for the Italian Government Scholarships:

The levels of study that are eligible for the Italian Government Scholarships include Master’s Degree courses, Courses of Higher Education in Arts, Music, and Dance (AFAM), PhD programs, Research work under academic supervision (Progetti in co-tutela), and Italian Language and Culture Courses.

Italian Government Scholarships Recipients May Be Exempt From Paying Enrollment And Tuition costs. The policy of each university determines whether or not a grant recipient is exempt from paying enrollment and tuition costs. Enrollment costs associated with the Italian language and culture classes are exempt from this scholarship

Health Insurance

During the entire time that they are recipients of Italian Government Scholarships, grantees will be protected by a health and medical/accident insurance policy that has been procured by MAECI. The coverage provided by the insurance policy will not apply to occurrences that are caused by pre-existing physical or pathological issues.

Financial Grant

Those who are awarded the Italian Government Scholarships will be entitled to a monthly stipend of 900 Euros, which will be sent into their Italian bank account on a quarterly basis.

Academic qualifications

Applications can only be filed by international students who do not currently reside in Italy, as well as by Italian nationals who are currently residing outside of Italy and who hold the proper academic qualification necessary to enroll in an Italian university or institute. Age limitations

Applicants for Master’s Degree/Higher Education in Arts, Music, and Dance (AFAM) Programmes/Italian Language and Culture advanced Courses are required to have reached the age of majority and shall not exceed the age of 28 years by the deadline of this call (born after June 9th 1994). The only exception to this rule is for applicants who are renewing their participation in the program.

Applicants for PhD Programs are expected to have reached the age of majority and shall not exceed the age of 30 years by the deadline of this call (born after June 9th 1992). The only exception to this rule is for applicants who are seeking renewals of their current fellowships.

Applicants for Research Projects under academic supervision are required to have reached the age of majority and must not be older than 40 years old by the time the call closes (born on or after June 9th, 1982).

Language proficiency requirements for the Italian Government Scholarships

Applicants are required to produce documentation verifying their level of fluency in the Italian language before being accepted into a class taught in Italian. Within the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), a B2 proficiency level is the bare minimum that is expected. Candidates who have attended the University and successfully completed an Italian class taught by a member of the University’s language faculty are eligible to submit a language certification issued by the University.

STUDY IN GERMANY

Applicants are required to demonstrate their command of the English language by presenting a language certificate prior to being accepted into a program in which English is the primary language of instruction. Within the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), a B2 proficiency level is the bare minimum that is expected. Self-certification may be an option for applicants hailing from nations where English is recognized as an official language and who are seeking admission to programs in which instruction is conducted fully in English. The ability to communicate in Italian is not required in any way for those classes that are conducted solely in English.

Applicants must present a certificate verifying their level of Italian language competency in order to be considered for enrollment in Italian language and culture classes. Within the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), an A2 level of proficiency is the bare minimum that is expected.
